Nespresso Citiz & Milk C120

After much deliberation for months, Michelle and I finally bought our first coffee machine! It’s a Nespresso Citiz & Milk C120 in Red.

The reason that we bought it is because from now till 31st December 2012, there is $100 off the Citiz range AND there is a further $100 worth of Nespresso Vouchers given! That means we’re effectively having a $200 discount off the retail price of $668. It’s an early Christmas and 3rd Year Anniversary present that we are giving each other =D

I just made a cappuccino and it’s really fun!

Capsules will cost about $1 each, which will definitely be cheaper than drinking from Starbucks & Coffeebean.

I’m also beginning to research on making Latte art and thinking of buying Bodum cups already. Let’s hope this is a lasting investment!

Yann Martel – Life of Pi

Picking this book up for USD$4 (at Borders near Madison Square Garden) during its closing down sale was a gem. It’s an illustrated hardcover book that was well worth its 1KG of luggage weight to bring back.

The story is about a boy called Piscine who got stranded on a boat with some animals, including a bengal tiger, for 227 days.

It is an adventure novel that touches on many issues, with the prominent one being religion. I was really fascinated by the island that he chanced upon, and also what he did to survive for so long. It’s gruesome/disgusting at some parts, but no doubt necessary.

The last part of the story also made me think a bit more of whether the narration by Piscine was indeed the truth, or was it a figment of his imagination. Which story would you buy? Are you the believer, or the skeptic that sticks to hard scientific facts and probability?

I think there is a bit more to the story than just an adventure novel. I really can’t wait for the movie to be out. It’s directed by Ang Lee, so I expect something good!

Hotel Michael OSOS Staycation

A huge thanks to Yi Wei’s dad, OSOS got a room at Hotel Michael for our staycation last Saturday! The walls and furniture there are supposed to be inspired by the architect Michael Graves, so it was fancier than usual.

This is the King-Sized bed and decor.

The 3 of us that came early spent our precious afternoon there watching Korean dramas. We’ve also learnt that Ching Hui watches a lot of obscure Korean shows as well as trash like Jersey Shore.

We then went walked around to explore Hard Rock Hotel and its gym and swimming pool, but not many of us brought our swimming attire and it was raining most of the day. The pool looks really nice at night though when it is lit up, real pity we didn’t get to use it because they close at 8pm.

We also played beach soccer in near pitch-darkness for about an hour. I kind of miss kicking a ball around, and Jun Xiang is going promised to plan a soccer outing after exams so I can’t wait for an OSOS soccer match!

Subsequently, that night was meant to forget a certain somebody that we used to know, so we promptly proceeded with business. Lime Mojito and Pomegranate Cocktails, Peach Liquor, Heinekens, Moscato, Chardonnay, and Gentleman Jack was brought on to play. There were a couple of videos recorded that night, but sadly nobody’s sharing it yet. I’m sure those will be good memories in time to come.

It was a short stay in a nice hotel, and it definitely made us laugh so hard like old times at chalets. The only difference is that the location got upgraded =D

Anyway, our dear friend Amer is embarking on a diet. Here is some evidence that she’s working out!

Good luck and hope you become chai.
